The key to building powerful characters in Wuthering Waves lies in your Echoes. While their set Sonata Effects are relatively easy to put together, the stats they inherit are harder to control. In this guide, we breakdown the Echo stat system in more detail.
Echo Level and Rarity
Echoes range from 1-Star to 5-Stars, each having a max level upgrade from +5 to +25. From 3-Star Echoes, Every 5 levels also adds a Tuning Slot and a potential Sub Stat to the Echo. Keep in mind that rarity plays a huge factor as it affects main stats and sub stats.
Rarity | Max Level | Number of Sub Stats |
---|---|---|
2-Star | 10 | 0 |
3-Star | 15 | 3 |
4-Star | 20 | 4 |
5-Star | 25 | 5 |
As you progress in the game and Data Bank levels, you will find most content quite easy to clear until you push through to the harder content of the game beyond Union Level 40, without even investing in to your Echoes.
Echo XP materials are harder to come by, so this is why players recommend not leveling up your Echoes unless they are 5-Star, and come at least with the main stat of your choice. Players can use previously leveled up Echoes as fodder, but will only get back 70% of the experience and Tuners used in return.
Main Stats
Each Echo has two main stats, the primary one is random, and the second is predetermined. Depending on the cost, the primary main stat can roll into a different list of affixes and the second stat will always be the same.
Echoes are separated into 3 different Costs based on the enemy type, and the base value increases depending on the rarity.

Best Stats
The trickiest part to managing the primary stats are the Elemental DMG Bonus on the 3 cost Echoes, as any element can roll into an unrelated element set (for example, Aero DMG Bonus % on a Glacio set Echo). This can be offset somewhat by rewards such as Malleable Elite Class Echo I and Malleable Elite Class Echo II, which has matching set and elemental DMG. Use them wisely!
Other than that, this makes the farming process pretty straightforward after identifying what Sonata Effect you want to aim for. In general:
- DPS characters prefer Crit. Rate on the 4 Cost, and Elemental % or ATK % on the 3 Cost, and ATK % /HP % / DEF % on the 1 Cost based on the scaling of the character. Some characters don't scale with ATK!
- Some characters may want Energy Recharge on the 3 Cost Echoes to charge up their ultimates more reliably.
- Healers may want Healing Bonus on the 4 Cost Echo.
Sub Stats
On every five levels of an Echo, you must use Tuners equivalent to the Echo’s rarity in order to unlock their sub stats. For example, if you have a 4-Star Echo, it can be upgraded up to +20. That grants you 4 Tuning Slots.
Sub stats are chosen randomly from the pool with a fixed value range below, regardless of the Echo rarity (from level 1 to 25). You can roll both flat and % of the same stat (e.g ATK % and ATK) and duplicate main and sub stat (e.g. double Crit Rate %).
Stat | Value |
---|---|
HP | 320 - 580 |
ATK | 30 - 70 |
DEF | 30 - 70 |
HP % | 6.4% - 11.6% |
ATK % | 6.4% - 11.6% |
DEF % | 8.1% - 14.7% |
Crit. Rate % | 6.3% - 10.5% |
Crit. DMG % | 12.6% - 21% |
Energy Regen % | 5.6% - 14.9% |
Basic Attack DMG Bonus % | 6.4% - 12.4% |
Heavy Attack DMG Bonus % | 6.4% - 11.6% |
Resonance Skill DMG Bonus % | 6.4% - 11.6% |
Resonance Liberation DMG Bonus % | 6.4% - 11.6% |
Best Stats
For most characters, the best sub stats follows the same principles as their desired main stats. Here is where you can look to fine tune your build depending on your luck! DPS characters really want Crit. Rate %, Crit. DMG %, and ATK %, but the DMG % rolls are also decent. All characters want a certain amount of Energy Regen %, this will be covered in individual guides.
We recommend keeping it a 1:2 Crit. Rate % to Crit. DMG % ratio (50%:200%, or more). Crit. Rate is really hard to come by in this game, which is why weapons with Crit. Rate % are highly desired. Do note, it's not the only way to increase your damage effectively!
