In Wuthering Waves, equipping characters with Echoes you collected by defeating monsters from the same set triggers their Sonata Effect. There are currently bonuses for equipping 2 and 5 unique Echoes (note: A Phantom shiny Echo counts as different ones!) from the same set.
Below we will cover each set in more detail, on what Echoes you need to farm and what characters they are best suited for.
Sonata Effect Overview
Currently, there are 9 different Echo sets in Wuthering Waves that serves their purpose to characters with different roles - whether they are DPS, support DPS, or a healer.
- Freezing Frost: Glacio DPS
- Molten Rift: Fusion DPS
- Void Thunder: Electro DPS
- Sierra Gale: Aero DPS
- Celestial Light: Spectro DPS
- Sun-sinking Eclipse: Havoc DPS
- Rejuvenating Glow: Healer
- Moonlit Clouds: Support
- Lingering Tunes: Generic DPS
The Echo Cost system gives your characters up to 12 capacity (at Data Bank level 9) to equip your Echoes as you see fit. You can place either Cost 1, 3 or 4 echo on your first slot as your Echo skill and it won’t affect your set’s effect.
To fulfill your 5 set Sonata Effects, your Echoes should be something like:
- Early game: 4, 1, 1, 1, 1
- Mid game: 4, 3, 1, 1, 1
- End game: 4, 3, 3, 1, 1
All sets share Cost 1 echoes across 3 different sets. This means that every drop is between a 33% or a 50% chance whether it's in the set you want or not (not taking into account their stats, which rarity also plays a huge factor).
For ease of farming, sometimes mixing and matching the two-piece set effects may be warranted so you can equip an off-set Echo with desired stats instead. 2 Lingering Tunes + 2 of an Elemental set is the most common combination, but is mainly as a transitional build.
Freezing Frost
Sonata Effects:
- 2pcs Set: Glacio DMG + 10%.
- 5pcs Set: Glacio DMG + 10% after releasing Basic Attack or Heavy Attack. This effect stacks up to 3 times, each stack lasts 15s.

Freezing Frost is your typical elemental DPS set for Glacio DPS characters, which is only Lingyang at the moment. Sanhua can also make use of the set as a primary DPS or if you are sharing Echoes around.
Molten Rift

Void Thunder

Characters:
Void Thunder is an unique set in that it has two possible 4 cost Echoes for Electro DPS characters, but only two 3 cost ones. Calcharo is the primary user of this set, although Yinlin and Yuanwu could also make use of this set effectively if sharing Echoes around.
Sierra Gale

The Celestial Light set for Spectro DPS is currently only usable for Rover (Male), which even then is not a very good investment. Consider pre-farming for future characters such as Jinhsi.
Sun-sinking Eclipse

- 5pcs Set: Havoc DMG + 7.5% after releasing Basic Attack or Heavy Attack. This effect stacks up to 4 times, each stack lasts 15s.

Rejuvenating Glow
Great effect for healings to provide additional buffs to your DPS characters.

The Rejuvenating Glow set is for the two healers in the game, Verina and Baizhi. However, note that the 5-piece set effect also triggers if using Originite: Type IV on characters such as Jianxin or Yuanwu, making them solid supports.
Moonlit Clouds

Moonlit Clouds is an amazing set for support - Sub DPS or Amplifiers like Yinlin, Aalto[item], [item]Sanhua, Jianxin, and Mortefi, who appreciate the Energy Regen while also supporting the Main DPS further more.
Lingering Tunes
Sonata Effects:
- 2pcs Set: ATK + 10%.
- 5pcs Set: While on the field, ATK increases by 5% every 1.5s. This effect stacks up to 4 stacks. Outro Skill DMG + 60%.

Characters:
Lingering Tunes can be used as a replacement set to the elemental sets or as a 2pc + 2pc combination alternative. This will allow the use of off-set pieces and make farming a bit easier. Otherwise, it's not a best in slot set for any character yet. Depending on your playstyle and if farming Void Thunder has you down, Calcharo could use it.
